Founded in 1998, Robbins Cattle Company
is a family ran operation with 200
registered Angus cows running on 1060
acres of owned land and 400 acres of
leased property. We consider ourselves a
low input ranch with no full-time
employees. Other than occasional day
help, we do everything ourselves, from
calving, AI’ing, feeding, to
merchandising. We are involved in all
aspects of the ranch and know what it
takes to make a ranch profitable.
We got our start in 1998 with the
private treaty purchase of 120 cows from
Arvid Jansen at Broken Bow, Nebraska.
They were a “ranchy” set of registered
Angus cows that had been managed and
culled like a good commercial herd.
These cows, along with their daughters,
have formed the foundation of our herd.
For the past 5 years we have been a
marketing partner for bulls from Cane
Ridge Cattle Company at Paris, Kentucky.
Managed by Mac and Connie Smith, Cane
Ridge is recognized as one of the
premier Angus herds in America with a
strong foundation of moderate-framed,
easy-keeping cows selected from Ohlde
Cattle Company and Thomas Angus Ranch.
You can find more information about
their program at caneridgecattle.com.
The bulls we get from them are shipped
to Oklahoma in the fall following
weaning where they are developed
alongside our bulls. These bulls become
acclimated to Oklahoma and you can rest
assured they will meet the highest
quality standards in the industry.
PHILOSOPHY
We treat our cows like a commercial herd
making them earn their way. They are not
pampered or overfed, and we require them
to raise a good calf every year.
Basically, we are a no-frills outfit and
our cows have to earn their way and pay
for our ranch.
We artificially inseminate our Angus
cows to proven Angus bulls with accurate
EPDs. We like using older bulls with
thousands of progeny records on file
with the American Angus Association.
These proven bulls eliminate the risk
associated with using the “hot new
yearling bull” that the industry knows
very little about.
ANGUS SIRES
OCC Emblazon 854E has been a mainstay in
our AI program for several years. He is
a low birth weight bull with good growth
and tremendous muscle for an Angus. His
greatest attribute is his easy-fleshing,
moderate-framed daughters that make
ideal cows for the real world. The only
problem we have is they are so popular,
it is hard to keep someone from buying
them. We continue to use Emblazon and
have also identified two sons that are
proving to breed as true as him, DDA
Emblazon 27C, and OCC Juneau. Both have
been added to our lineup and you will
see more of their progeny in the future.
Another rising star on the Angus side is
DCC New Look 101. Bred by Duff Cattle
Company and owned in partnership with
Cane Ridge Cattle Company, we are
offering some of his first sons this
year. They are everything we expected,
really deep, heavy muscled, and easy
keeping. We will have a lot more of
these in the future.
SIMANGUS SIRES
On the SimAngus side, we continue to use
Meyer Ranch 734, the legendary female
sire know for his fabulous daughters. He
works really well on DHD Traveler 6807
daughters and most of our Meyer sons are
bred that way. CNS Dream On has been the
number one sire for registrations in the
Simmental breed for several years and
his sons are some of our best. He has
worked really well on OCC Anchor
daughters with their extreme depth of
body and broodiness.
BULL SALES
Since our start in 1998 we have sold all
of our bulls private treaty. We prefer
to sell our bulls this way because it
gives us an opportunity to get to know
our customers and help them address
their individual needs and goals. We
also prefer the laid back pace of the
private treaty sale allowing our
customers to take their time, shop at
their own pace and feel confident they
made the right decision.
We are now selling over 100 bulls
annually and with the growth of our
program and the continued marketing
partnership with Cane Ridge Cattle
Company we will soon be approaching 150
bulls. This will allow our customers a
larger selection of good bulls and the
chance to purchase large groups of half
and three quarter brothers.
We hope you give us the opportunity to
show you our product. Stop by the ranch
any time and we will be happy to show
you our cattle. |
